Just a quick update for Project $300.
The reason the dash and lights go haywire when the vehicle is started is because... it has an aftermarket anti-theft device installed. The car didn't come with a keyfob for it. It has an alarm squirreled away under the hood and a relay box under the passenger's side dash. So, it's going to take about 3 hours this weekend to evict that thing from the car.
Secondly, the power steering system has a major leak somewhere. Need to dig into it to determine where.
Bought a used LH taillight ($40) and all the factory jack equipment it was missing ($20).
Registering it in my name is going to cost $80.50. I can transfer my old Escort plates to it for free, but they come due at the end of December ($75).
Current costs:
- Car to date: $538
- Taillight: $40
- Factory Jack Equipment: $20
Total: $598
In honor of yesterday, I'm going to have a beer.

Go and try an ancient Model M. Then you'll be using ancient keyboards for years.
I'm not sure what that one is though...

Fujitsu FKB 4700. Uses Fujitsu Peerless buckling spring switches. Force-wise they're on par with Cherry MX Clear or MX Super Black switches.

Very cool! I'm a pretty big fan of quirky old keyboards.

I've got a parts one of these as well, for a project I'm going to try.
Through MassDrop I ordered a complete set of DSA Dolch keycaps for Cherry MX switches, and I'm going to see if they'll work on Peerless switches too.
Here's a Filco with a full DSA Dolch keyset:

Whoa, that thing looks pretty cool.
I'm working on a full Model M restoration, which unfortunately isn't going well because the rivet replacement didn't fix shit.
You on Geekhack?

Noice, I'm usually floating around Geekhack about once a week and the rest of my time is spent here. Audizine when I'm feeling brave, Used to float about the Gw250 forum before I sold my bike.

I will spare everyone the troubles of listening to Gordon Lightfoot about the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
Also, pro tip: never go boating on the Great Lakes if there is even a hint of a storm. It is always terrible.
